Beatrix Potter - The Memorable Kid's Novelist
Beatrix Potter whose true first name was Helen, was a great English author as well as illustrator who was most commonly known regarding her kid's books boasting anthropomorphic figures such as in the children's classic -- The Tale of Peter Rabbit.
Beatrix was in fact born into a very privileged family where she was tutored by governesses and thus spent her childhood years separated from other young children. She previously had numerous domestic pets and spent getaways in Scotland and the Lake District where she developed a love of the landscape, plant life and animals, all of which she meticulously viewed and painted. Her father and mother didn't ecourage her intellectual progress as a young woman, however her analysis along with paintings of fungi ended in her being extensively respected in the field of mycology.
In her 30's, Beatrix Potter wrote the very successful children's book, The Tale of Peter Rabbit. Close to that time she got secretly engaged to her publisher Norman Warne. This caused a breach with her mother and father, whom did not approve of Beatrix marrying somebody of lower social status. Unfortunately though, Warne died prior to the marriage ceremony.
Ultimately Beatrix Potter began publishing and illustrating childrens books fulltime. With the proceeds from her books, Beatrix grew to become economically independent of her parents and was finally able to acquire Hill Top Farm in the Lake District. She extended the property with other purchases over time. In her 40's, Beatrix wedded William Heelis, a local solicitor. She finished up becoming a sheep breeder and farmer whilst continuing to write and illustrate books for children. In whole she authored twenty-three publications.
Beatrix died on the twenty second of December, 1943, and left the vast majority of her property to the National Trust. Her books continue to sell well all over the world, in a mixture of languages. Her tales have been retold in various formats which include a ballet, films, along with animation.
Such is her popularity, and that of the characters from her books, a large number of Beatrix Potter figurines were manufactured. These Beatrix Potter figurines which include just about all the actual characters in her publications have become very collectable and valuable.
